Keeping Toddlers Entertained

It's most likely no surprise to you all that I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Usually everyday. I do a lot of baking. Whether it's bread or tortilla shells, or chicken or chicken nuggets, or granola bars, I'm in the kitchen everyday. Not necessarily because I love it, but because making food from scratch is healthier for my family and much, much cheaper. The problem is, I also have to be in the kitchen while the little guy is awake. His bedroom is upstairs near the kitchen, and once he's asleep the upstairs is a no noise zone.

So I normally make do with him clinging on my legs and pulling stuff out of the drawers. But no more!
Now I bust out the small bowls and measuring spoons I'm not using and her can go to town with a bit of water. Sure he spills, but water is easily cleanable! Plus he gets a towel or cloth to clean it up himself.

This falls under the "why haven't I done this sooner" thinking. It totally works for me!

What a cute picture. Anders loves to help in the kitchen. He usually gets a bowl with some water, a selection of different utensils, a pot and pan. On occasion, I let him have dry oats instead of water. It's a bigger mess for me, but boy does he have fun.

Congrates on babe number 2.

As a 20-something woman about to get married, I find your blog quite interesting and thought-provoking. I definitely try to make it a priority to keep my household as eco-friendly as possible, and am interested in raising my children on organic diets when the time comes. You should post some of your organic recipes when you have a chance!

Great idea! Our deck is right off of our kitchen and I have a rubbermaid container with birdseed in it and cups and funnels and my 3yr old loves to play in it!
